R. Ranganathan is an internationally recognized centre for advanced training and research in this area. The DRTC now offers M.S. Programme in Library & Information Science with the primary objective of preparing the next generation information managers. This new and unique programme offers an ideal blend of courses spanning library science, information technology, knowledge management and quantitative studies. For those with an aptitude for higher studies and research the M.S. Programme provides a solid foundation for Ph.D. programmes. M.S. in Library and Information Science ===================================== ELIGIBILITY ----------- 3-year Bachelors degree in any discipline. Stipend Rs.5000/- per month. DURATION -------- The duration of the Programme is 24 months (2 Years); the programme is offered only at the ISI Bangalore Centre Junior Research Fellowship in Library and Information Science ============================================================= ELIGIBILITY ------------- A consistent good academic record with first or high second class in M.S.(LIS) awarded by the Indian Statistical Institute or Associateship in Documentation and Information Science of the Indian Statistical Institute or NISCAIR/INSDOC or its equivalent degree(such as Master's degree in Library and Information Science from any University) with at least 55% marks in undergraduate programme. All eligible students will receive fellowship Rs.16,000/- per month (Offered at Bangalore). Selection Procedure =================== Selection of candidates is based on merit as judged by their performance in written tests and interviews conducted by the Institute. Past academic record may also be taken into consideration. Due consideration is given to SC/ST/OBC/Physically Challenged candidates for above programme (i.e., excluding Junior Research Fellowship programme). Detailed procedures for selection of the candidates who have been offered Junior Research Fellowships are available in the prospectus. Limited hostel facilities are available. How to apply? ============= Application procedure: --------------------- Candidates from outside India may send an email to dean(a)isical.ac.in with subject Admission 2014-2015 for the application procedure. Candidates in India can apply only ON-LINE through the official website http://www.isical.ac.in/~deanweb. Applicants should read carefully the instructions, Prospectus given in the website before filling in the application form. An applicant must have access to the Internet, an email account, acrobat reader and need to have a digital copy of his/her photo and signature in appropriate format and size (see Prospectus). Application Fee: ----------------- Rs. 500.00 for all applicants in the general category and all applicants for the JRF programmes (irrespective of reservation category), Rs.250.00 for applicants belonging to SC/ST/OBC categories for all programmes excluding JRF programme. Mode of payment: ---------------- The challan generated by the on-line system must be taken to any branch of State Bank of India. CBSE introduces "Library and Information Science" as an Academic Elective Subject in Senior Secondary Schools from 2014-'15

Dear All, The CBSE has introduced "Library and Information Science" as an Academic Elective Subject in Senior Secondary Schools from the academic session 2014-'15 in classes XI-XII (Subject Code 079) on pilot basis in some selected schools. " One of the important aspects of this elective is to improve the education system for Library and Information Science at school level which may be equivalent to Diploma holders in Library and Information Science.The elective will import some of the basic of L.I.Sc to those who aspire to pursue higher studies in Library and Information Science. The Course is defined with the following objectives: 1. To develop the basic understanding of theory and practical part of Library & Information Science among student 2. To develop knowledge and skill to pursue the subject for higher education in future; and 3. To develop basic skill to work as Library Semi Professional in the Library, if drop out after +2 Level." The Library and Information Science, an academic elective (Code No 079) would nurture the interest of students and expose them to the nuances of skills and approaches required in this field. The elective can be offered by students as one of the four elective subjects and also as an additional elective subject at senior secondary stage in combination with any of the subjects that are already available in the Scheme of Studies of the Board." Detailed Course description for Classes XI and XII is also given in the circular. The minimum qualification for Teachers in Library & Information Science is fixed as Master‟s degree in Library & Information Science (M.L.I.Sc) from a recognised University. Dear Mr.Anand, Your views on LiS Profession are indeed appreciable. Just like other professionals like nurses, teachers or accountants librarians do have lot of apprehensions about status and images of the profession. It is very simple.... as librarians we always think of what the profession has done for us ... and we rarely think about what we have done for the profession and how we are responsible for its status and image. There are some studies / research by librarians themselves and Sociologists of Professions. It is time all of us be little aware of such studies instead of blind groping and making loose comments. I have summed up some such thoughts in couple of my papers. I have placed here link of one of my papers which would be useful to all who .... who wonder on our image and status in society. It may also be useful to all those who have started a very humiliating series of opinions on 'how librarianship is a dyeing profession' ... at American Library Associations Sub Group ... Re-degination of KV Librarian

In the recently held BOG meeting of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, New Delhi1.The Librarians of KV are going to be re-designated as Trend Graduate Teacher(Library Science) with out any pay change. It is to mentioned that Librarians of KV are already getting the scale of TGT of other subject.2.Keeping the workload of KV librarians the additional post of Library Assistant is also created for big schools.Here it is to mentioned that KV libraries are one of the finest school library system in India having a collection of 10000-40000. Subscribes daily 6-12 newspapers, 40-60 magazines, 4 NCERT journals and fully barcoded, internet access, and yearly issue ranges from 10000-15000. This is really manageable, and over burdened, to them.The health of them also affected for this super over burdened task.
