Request for feedback on Stock Verification, Loss of Books and Weeding out in Libraries.

Dear LIS Professionals, I am coming out with a very comprehensive book of SV, Loss of Books and Weeding out policies and procedures in Indian Libraries. It would also be rather a comparative study. I have also collected about 20 documents relating to the above subjects which includes Government orders (State and Central) Recommendations (Associations) and Orders issued by Government departments and so on. In order to make is more realistic and to impress upon the authorities that be, to evolve some policies and procedures especially on Weeding Out (that doesn't exist so far as I know) and also some concrete proposals on other related subjects. I have small number of questions enumerated below. Pl. spare few minutes time to answer them as a feedback to the queries. 1. Do you undertake SV in your library and how frequently? Who is assigned the work. Librarian or the Institution Staff? 2. Do you have Writing off policy. If not how the loss is reckoned. Is library staff held responsible? 3. Do you know the GOI Order (Amendment to Central Finance Code) of 1984. If yes did the same in incorporated in the State and/or Central Finance Rules 4. Do you undertake Weeding of collection? If yes do you have any policy or procedure in this regard.5. If you have weeded in the last 5 years what is the strength and what is procedure to dispose the weeded books or other documents. 6. Do you possess any order or a document recommending or criterion on writing off loss of books (Permissible loss) from your institution's library. 7. Library Automation in Public Libraries: Need and Importance Public Library is a kind of library which is accessed by general public, funded by public sources and managed by library professionals. Basically public library is supported by taxes, governed by a body or board to serve the public interest, open to all. This kind of library is found throughout the world and is different from school libraries, college or university libraries. This kind of library allows its users to access and use of books, journals, magazines, maps and atlases, reference books etc. under the duty of social obligations. Public Library has different kind of users' category such as Children, Students, House Wives, Senior Citizens, Managers, Doctors, and Lawyers etc. These libraries also provide the same services being provided by any academic or special library. Thus, it becomes necessary to automate this kind of library also. Library Automation is the process which replace the manual work in mechanical way so as to make the work easy and fast. By library automation, the housekeeping operation can be mechanized easily and the bibliographic record can also be utilized by another library. Library automation not only brings the speed & accuracy but also economy and help in providing quick and prompt library services. People's Archive of Rural India

Friend's: Today's The Hindu (Chennai Edition, Magazine section, p.2; 14 Dec 2014) carries an article on an excellent initiative - a multimedia archive on Rural India. To be launched on 20 December 2014, this archive "uses cutting edge technology and new forms of storytelling to document and reflect the energies of rural Indians." The archive is fully open access (CC 4.0). The PARI network, founded by Mr P Sainath, began its work of digitization in 2011. They hope to continue the work with crowd sourcing. I did not know about this project till I read about it today. But my impression is it deserves support. Please keep visiting < http://www.ruralindiaonline.org/>. Most members of LIS-Forum are familiar with the use of the Internet, the web and the archiving technology through IRs, PubMed Central, arXiv, the many databases of astronomy and biology, etc. The PARI archive is about (rural) people, their lives and their engagement with the external world.
