Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo is the oldest art museum in São Paulo, SP, Brazil. The Walter Wey Library was created in 1959 to support the Museum staff: curators, researchers and conservators but today the majority of patrons is graduate students. The Library's collection is rich in representing Brazilian artists and contains materials pertinent to the Museum's art collections but it includes materials from all over the world. The Library has just started a new section that is formed by fanzines. Although there are many other libraries that hold these collections they are not very familiar either to users or to librarians. The library became interested in starting this collection because we have received many fanzines made by visual artists, illustrators, poets and comic writers. Fanzines are self-published booklets, created by hand or using low-cost printing technologies that allow to creator to take part in the whole production process. Although there are some E-zines being produced, some authors claims that fanzines could be considered as means of cultural resistance, in terms that they are printed and usually handmade, in opposition to all social media and digital sources for publishing. By bringing these materials into an art public Library Pinacoteca seeks to invite more people to read them. The circulation of fanzines could be restricted to other places than public museum and they are so original and creative that we decided to keep them and make them available to users. We expect to do a research to find relationships with contemporary art and also with other disciplines as Communication Theory and Information Science. About the Speaker: Isabel Ayres Maringelli was born in São Paulo, SP, Brazil, 1969. She has a Master of Business Administration - MBA in Cultural Economics (2009) – FGV – Getulio Vargas Foundation and a Graduate Degree and Bachelor's in Information and Documentation Science – Sociology and Political School São Paulo Foundation (1993). She is the Coordinator of Library Walter Wey, Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo, the oldest art museum in the city, since 2009. Prior to this she has worked for more than 20 year in the Business Administration in the Getulio Vargas Foundation. She has published some articles in the field of use of open source software for library automation and libraries portals and has also been working with exhibitions productions. Dear Members, NCSI-Net, an informal association comprising of erstwhile NCSI staff and its trainees, was established in 2000. During its 13 years of existence, the association has been constantly engaged in organizing various professional activities like monthly lectures, invited talks, seminars, conferences, and workshops. It has also been collaborating with other professional associations in organizing and conducting various professional activities. Being an informal association, it had its own advantages and to some extent, some constraints, too. Also, many of NCSIians have been expressing their intent, for a long time now, that it should become a registered body so that it can engage itself in lot more diversified activities. Several of senior NCSI-Net members have been mulling about the idea of NCSI-Net being a registered body for a long time. Around March 2013, it was decided that NCSI-Net would be registered as a charitable trust. The process for registration was started thereafter and after few initial hurdles, we finally managed to get it registered. We are very happy to convey that our plan came into fruition on Friday, 14 June 2013. So, NCSI-Net is now NCSI-Net Foundation, a registered charitable trust. The foundation, for the present, will continue with the existing activities including the annual lecture and seminar series in honor and memory of late Dr. T.B. Rajashekar. In fact, the TBR Memorial lecture, 2013, on "Knowledge Diversity in Media Content Analysis - An Analytico-synthetic Approach" delivered by Dr. Devika P. Madalli of DRTC, on Friday 21 June 2013, was the inaugural event of the foundation. The foundation already has a web presence with a very rudimentary web site, accessible at http://www.ncsinet.org. It will be improved up on in due course of time. We are now gearing up for the second event by the foundation - Dr. T.B. Rajashekar Memorial Seminar. The announcement about the seminar follows: NCSI-Net Foundation cordially invites you to the 9th Dr. TBR Memorial Seminar (2013). This year's topic will be "Digital Information Services in Academic and R&D Information Centers". It's a one-day seminar targeted for the benefit of students of Library and Information Science and budding LIS professionals. The details of the seminar are given below.
