The fifth talk of the series has been scheduled on Tuesday, 7th June 2011 @6.00pm at the following Address: Sarada Ranganathan Endowment for Library Science (SRELS) # 702, 'Upstairs', 42nd Cross, III Block Rajajinagar, Bangalore - 560 010 Title: "How to Become A Wholesome, Multi-Skilled Librarian/ Information Scientist". Speaker: Mr. Seetharaman M N, Rtd. Librarian, NAL, Bangalore. Abstract: In this talk Mr. Seetharaman would stress on the ongoing debate about the relevance of libraries and librarians in the era of internet and digital age. The need for librarians to be aware of fast moving changes in the global library and information environment. How the emerging library 2.0 concept would change the way we work. He is going to stress on the Need for librarians to develop basic and high level competencies to meet the challenges of the changed environment in the way we deliver our services. How the present day Librarians need to equip themselves such that they become successful information brokers for both print and electronic media. The ways and means to develop skills to identify, retrieve, organize, repackage and provide electronic access to digital information sources and how to become a change agent for technology applications. He is also presenting a case study on how to make a sick library into a modern, vibrant knowledge centre. About The Speaker: Mr. Seetharaman M N has done his Master's Degree (International Relations), from Pune University. He has also done Associateship in Information & Documentation, Indian National Scientific Documentation Centre, CSIR, New Delhi during the year 1966. He was heading Information Centre for Aerospace Sciences & Technology (ICAST) between 1965-1988 at National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL), Bangalore. He has worked as a Chief Librarian, Central Library, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras from 1989-1992. He has served as a Information Products Manager at Global Information Systems Technology, Bangalore during 1992-1996. During 1996-1997 , he has served as a Consulting Editor, Computer Software Magazine, 3SE (Software, Services, Support & Education) Ltd. Bangalore. From 1997 to 2009 he has served as a Sr. Consultant: Project Management, Marketing, Public Relations, Information Management and Events Management in Composites Technology Park, Bangalore. Presently he is serving as a country Representative for India, with Curran Associates Inc, Red Hook, New York to publicize and Market high tech International Conference Proceedings published by about 300 professional associations worldwide. 1.The person requesting the article has to give full bibliographic details. If it is incomplete, fellow professionals may not spend time bothering about some other institution's request. 2.They should become members of organizations like DELNET and ask for DDS services and pay the charges 3. It is based on the single examination evaluation instead of the prevailing multiple competitive examination system in the country. Most nations employ just one test for assessment of scholastic aptitude instead of a plethora of evaluation tests. The current selection systems have, no doubt, resulted in visible benefits. But, the future of Indian youth might need a paradigm shift that ensures opportunity for larger sections of the society. The extreme level of competitiveness in the screening processes employed for deciding access to professional education is not without its psychological or sociological implications for the society. They do influence the mindset and behavioural changes among the youth. "Unity in diversity" is the Indian brand value. Unification, while retaining the diversity of educational systems in the country is the underlying strategy of the proposed National Test Scheme. It is motivated by the principle of inclusion for a collaborative excellence rather than exclusion through competitive excellence. ISBN: 978-92-3-104188-4 This report provides a new perspective on the social and political dynamics behind the threats to expression. It develops a conceptual framework on the 'ecology of freedom of expression' for discussing the broad context of policy and practice that should be taken into consideration in discussions of this issue. Over the first decade of the 21st century, the Internet and its convergence with mobile communications has enabled greater access to information and communication resources. In 2010, nearly 2 billion people worldwide – over one quarter of the world's population – use the Internet. However, during the same period, defenders of digital rights have raised growing concerns over how legal and regulatory trends might be constraining online freedom of expression. Anecdotal accounts of the arrests of bloggers, the filtering of content and the disconnection of users have sparked these concerns. However, they are reinforced by more systematic studies that provide empirical evidence of encroachments on freedom of expression, such as through the increased use of content filtering.
