Dear All, I Dr. R.SUMAN KUMARI am happy to announce the publication of my book entitled “HUMAN FACTORS AND INFORMATION SEEKING BEHAVIOUR OF INDIAN LINGUISTS” published by the Central Institute of Indian Languages, Mysore. Cost of the book –Rs 210/- Category –Information Seeking Behaviour About the Book The study explores the role of information plays in everyday activities of linguists with special focus on ‘HUMAN FACTORS ‘in information seeking behavior, which is a neglected area of information research in particular Indian Linguistics. The Indian linguists(81) selected for the study are involved in the linguistic research and teaching of Indian languages at the premier institute of India “Central Institute of Indian Languages in Mysore, Karnataka (www.ciil.org www.ciillibrary.org ) and its seven regional language centre’s at Mysore, Pune, Patiala, Solan, Lucknow, Bhubaneswar and Guhwati. Based on the analysis of the study Indian linguists are classified into three groups in accordance with information seeking such as “ Information Centric Linguists(34)”, “Information Conscious Linguists (19)“and “Casual Users Linguists(28). The characteristics of 34 information centric linguists are highlighted along with the general characteristic of 81 Indian linguists. The learning style of linguists was arranged according to four styles i.e. Activist, Theorist, Reflector and Pragmatist In accordance with their attitudes towards information data was classified into three categories –Having positive towards information, Negative attitude towards information and ambivalent group. The situational information needs of linguists are explored from 21 key points .Findings have been summarized in the form of model of information seeking behavior of linguists under two categories of “Information Gathering “ and “Information seeking” using Krikelas model. Further learning style, attitude towards information was identified as potentially important aspects of cognitive style related to information seeking behavior. Multivariate techniques were used successfully to reduce the quantity of data to provide a concise and understandable account of the information behavior of Indian linguists. Progress of UDC Summary translation in to languages of the Indian subcontinent

Hi, Colleagues may be interested in the progress made so far in translating the UDC Summary into languages of the Indian subcontinent (http://www.udcc.org/udcsummary/php/index.php) Currently UDC Summary has around 2400 classes and is available online in 42 languages. We hope to be able to provide exports for free use for training and indexing soon. At the moment we can send multilingual exports of what is available on upon request. In 2010, under the guidance of Dr. Devika Madalli and with help from DRTC (Bangalore) we managed to establish contact with volunteers in a number of universities and we have made good progress in making at least the top classes in a number of languages available online.
