The 2010 Emerald/EFMD Outstanding Doctoral Research Awards Emerald Group Publishing Limited, publisher of the largest collection of international business and management journals, and the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD), a global membership organization with more than 700 institutional members from academia, business and public services, seek to celebrate excellence in research by sponsoring the 2010 Emerald/EFMD Outstanding Doctoral Research Awards. Award-winning entries will receive a cash prize of €1,500 (or currency equivalent), a certificate, a winners' logo to attach to correspondence and the prospect of an offer of publication in the sponsoring journal - either as a full paper or an executive summary - at the discretion of the Editor(s). In addition, a number of Highly Commended Awards will be bestowed. This year there are 12 categories. Awards by category * Information science [Category sponsored by Journal of Documentation] * Knowledge management [Category sponsored by Journal of Knowledge Management] Eligibility To be eligible for the Awards, the research must address an issue that is of importance to one of the various subject areas listed above. The Awards are open to those who have completed and satisfied examination requirements for a Doctoral award, or will do so, between 1 October 2007 and 1 October 2010, and have not applied previously for one of these Awards. Submission requirements 1. Researchers must apply online using the application form at: http://ww2.emeraldinsight.com/awards/odra.htm 2. The following documents will be required electronically: * Covering letter – as part of this please state whether or not your doctoral research has been published and/or will be published in any form (conference paper, article, peer reviewed journal, etc) * Executive Summary – paper that summarises the Doctoral research. The Executive Summary should not exceed 1,000 words (reference lists and presentation of data, as either Tables or Figures, do not count towards this total). * Letter of recommendation/reference from a supervisor/senior faculty member. For short-listed applicants, further contact may be made with the referee. * Contact details of external examiner(s). 3. Applicants must only submit to one category. Judging criteria The entries will be judged by the Editor(s) and at least one Editorial Advisory Board member of the sponsoring journal. Entries will be judged on the following criteria: 1. Significance/implications for theory and practice 2. Originality and innovation 3. Appropriateness and application of the methodology 4. Analysis and presentation of the data 5. Quality of the literature review Short-listed applicants may be required to answer further questions as appropriate from the judging panel. Winners will be required to submit an unpublished paper, sole- or joint-authored, derived from the research, within six months of winning the Award. The Editors reserve the right not to select a winning paper if, in their judgment, none of the entries is considered satisfactory. Please note that the decision of the judges is final. IATLIS Awards – Call for nominations Indian Association of Teachers of Library and Information Science (IATLIS) invites nominations from LIS teachers / professionals / researchers for the following three awards: 1. IATLIS – Motiwale Best LIS Teacher Award, 2. IATLIS – Mrs. Ratna Laxman Rao Best Woman LIS Teacher / Professional Award 3. IATLIS – Prof. S.P. Narang Research Promotion Award Eligibility for IATLIS – Motiwale Best LIS Teacher Award, and IATLIS – Mrs. Ratna Laxman Rao Best Woman LIS Teacher / Professional Award: Executive Council Members of IATLIS are not eligible to be nominated for these awards. The nominee should have at least 10 years of teaching experience at the post-graduate level or 10 years professional experience at a senior level, and should be in service. A person can receive the award only once and one person can nominate only one LIS teacher / professional at a time. Nominations on plain paper should be accompanied by bio-data, list of publications, details of professional activities, and contribution to IATLIS activities. Eligibility for IATLIS – Prof. S. P. Narang Research Promotion Award: For this year’s award, nominations only of students registered for Ph.D. in a recognized university would be considered. The nominee should not be a full-time employee. Nominations should be sent on a plain paper along with bio-data, progress report of research work, and research papers (published/accepted for publication), if any. The nominations will be considered by an Awards Committee constituted by the IATLIS Executive Committee. An award will not be given in case majority of the Committee Members feel that no one has been found suitable for that award. It was established in 1847 as College of Civil Engineering Roorkee which was renamed as Thomason College of Civil Engineering in the memory of James Thomason (then Lt. Governor of North West Provinces) in 1854. Thomason College was converted into University of Roorkee after independence in 1947 which now have been converted into Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee in 2001 by the Central Government recognizing its national importance. The Mahatma Gandhi Central Library Mahatma Gandhi Central Library of the Institute finds a unique place in the academic library scenario in this part of world. It is an amalgamation of the old and the new. While it is one of the oldest academic libraries in country, it is housed in a state of art new building using latest ICT. The Library contains more than 3.40 lacs documents in every form of media. It has access to more than 12000+ e-journals and 25000+ e-books. About 6000 books are added to its collection annually. The building of the MGCL has been designed keeping in view of latest ICT facilities. It has a provision of more then 200 I/Os for connecting desktop computers. Wi Fi connectivity is provided for laptops. A well equipped imaging centre with two Minolta Planetary Scanners and several flatbed scanners has been established for digitization purpose. The Library maintains six servers for various activities. The library has also established an Institute repository “Bhagirathi” which is to contain Institute achieves and other publications and available at http://bhagirathi.iitr.ac.in/dspace . ABOUT ROORKEE Roorkee is situated at the foot of Himalayas, has picturesque landscape blessed with holy Ganga canal and is the gateway to world famous pilgrimage and tourist places of Hardwar, Rishikesh, Valley of flowers, Badrinath, Kedarnath, Dehradun and Mussoorie. It has a population of over 1,50,000 and is at a distance of about 180 Km from Delhi. It is directly connected through railways to Delhi, Bombay, Lucknow, Calcutta, and Amritsar. Regular bus and taxi service is available from Inter State Bus Terminal at Delhi and takes about 5 hours from Delhi to Roorkee. The weather in November is very comfortable however sometimes light woolens may be required. Participants are advised to come prepared accordingly. INDEST-AICTE Consortium Indian National Digital Library in Engineering Sciences and Technology (INDEST) Consortium” was set-up in 2003 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) on the recommendation of an Expert Group appointed by the Ministry. It provides access to electronic resources to its member institutions comprising of more than 1207 members including 48 core member institutions with MHRD funding, including IITs, IISc, NITs, NERIST, ISM, IIIT, IIITM , NITIE, IISER & NITTTR, 60 AICTE supported institutions and 1099 institutions that have joined the consortium under its self-supported category. The Consortium was converted into INDEST-AICTE Consortium in December 2005 with the AICTE playing pivotal role in enrolling its affiliated engineering colleges and institution as members of the consortium. Registration Fee There is no registration fee for the members of INDEST-AICTE Consortium. The participants need to submit their registration form through proper channel. However for non members the registration fee is Rs.1500. Accompanied persons shall be charged Rs. 1000 each extra. Lodging, Boarding and Travel The arrangement for lodging and boarding of participants will be made in Institute‘s guest houses from 17th November 2010 evening to 20th November 2010 morning on twin sharing and first come first basis. Rs 750/- shall be charged for accommodation. As the accommodation at IITR is limited, participants are requested to book their accommodation as early as possible by sending the requisite amount in the form of cheque/DD payable at Roorkee. The participants desirous of staying in hotels will have to make their own arrangement. Travel expenses will be born by participating institutions.
