In "Lessons Learned: How College Students Find Information in the Digital Age," we present findings from our student survey, administered last spring to students (n=2,318) enrolled at six U.S. college campuses (42 pages, PDF, 3 MB). We were struck by what we found. We hope that our findings will help inform educators, such as yourself, about today's college students and how they look for information and conduct research for course-related work and in their everyday lives. Date: Tue, 14 Sep 2010 15:49:05 +0530 From: sameer jha <jha9090(a)gmail.com> As a library professional, I consider this important to share it with all the concerned members of the fraternity that, currently, the impact factor, h-indices and similar other quantities have, unjustifiably, become the only yardsticks to measure the quality of one's scientific contributions. It discourage the authors and researcher to submit their manuscripts to national journals. Adding the pain, this is considered as a rule of thumb by the peers and judges also. The younger lot has also started to feel that the publication in the so-called International journal alone can give them recognition and job. The conditions all around us has been made so pathetic that even in job application forms, there is a distinction between national and international journals. My question is very simple -Do the national journals not have international authorship, visibility or recognition? -Aren't we producing good quality scientific article? -Aren't national authors getting published in international journals? Luckily, there are many who share this pain...one of the person I would like to mention is Dr. S.C. Lakhotia of cytogenetics laboratory, Department of Zoology, Banaras Hindu University. Prof. A. C. Tikekar - A Tribute

Dear Library Friends, It is indeed shocking to hear the sad demise of Prof. A. C. Tikekar last thursday in Mumbai. I was knowing him since I was a student of M.Lib.Sc. at Mumbai University way back in 1987-88. He was an excellent teacher and a great Librarian. In fact, Prof. Tikekarji had held with distinction the office of the Librarian and as the HOD of Library Science at the Mumbai University before retiring in 1996. He earned the respect and admiration of his students and all the library fraternity for his dedication, sense of service and innate simplicity. His services to the Indian Library field shall always be remembered. May his soul rest in Peace.
