Dear Friends, Agripedia - Internet Accessible Interactive Multimedia Instructional Resource Agripedia (http://www.ca.uky.edu/agripedia/) is developed by the University of Kentucky's College of Agriculture created with a USDA Higher Education Program Grant. Agripedia has been created to allow students to use resources across the country in an integrated, interactive learning resource on the Internet. As an "encyclopedia of agriculture", Agripedia presents facts, figures, demonstrations, examples, graphics, and more regarding the concepts, practices, and vocabulary of agriculture in a multimedia format using audio clips, graphics, text and animation. Important features of Agripedia are, 1. A "general encyclopedia" of agricultural information with a glossary of words and pictures and video to assist students in the learning process. 2. A centralized location for access to other Internet agricultural web sites/links. 3. A centralized starting point for all web site-related class materials within the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture. XV Inter-American Meeting for Librarians and Agricultural Information Specialists, RIBDA-2009 "Technological Innovation in Open Access for Agricultural and Environmental Information" Peru, National Library, Lima - 27, 28, 29, October, 2009 http://www.aibdaperu.org/ CALL FOR PAPERS AND POSTERS The Inter-American Association of Librarians and Agricultural Information Specialists, is pleased to invite all the professionals related to the management of agricultural and environment information, to participate in the fifteenth Edition of the Inter-American Meeting for Librarians and Agricultural Information Specialists Meeting to be held at the National Library of Peru, Lima, on 27th-29th October 2009. TOPICS 1.) Open Access to information in Agricultural Innovation in Latin and North America State of the Art - Research and Analysis. Promotion of Open Access movement (OA), applied to institutions around the world, such as FAO, focusing on the effort to reduce the access barriers to information. 2.) Perspectives on Open Access and Technologies for Information Management Exchange among creators, managers and users of information the technological possibilities for transferring information through Digital repositories, under quality standards for analysis and dissemination. 3.) Professional-Social Networks and Local Information Systems Emphasize the impact of OA movement in Latin America and North America, under Public information Policies, Local Information Systems, Tele-Centers and Specialist Management. Memory of the World Programme - Awareness Survey 2009 <http://www.interpares.org/unesco/awareness_survey.cfm> This survey is intended for library, archives and museum specialists, as well as anyone interested in preserving documentary heritage. Through its Memory of the World programme, UNESCO aims to promote preservation of, and disseminate information regarding, documentary heritage found in archival holdings and library and museum collections worldwide. The Programme includes national / regional committees, which help to initiate and support nominations within their respective regions. The Memory of the World Registers list documentary heritage of recognized world significance assessed on the basis of specific criteria outlined in the UNESCO Memory of the World General guidelines to safeguard documentary heritage. The purpose of this survey is to increase and assess awareness of the Programme and to encourage nominations to the Memory of the World Registers. UNESCO hopes to use feedback from this survey to further develop the Memory of the World Programme. The deadline for the survey is 30 April 2009. National Workshop on KOHA

Dear All, [Apologies for seeing this message more than once] Department of Library and Information Science, University of Calicut in association with C H M K Library, University of Calicut is organizing a Two-Day National Workshop on Integrated Library Automation Package Koha scheduled to be held on 20-21 March 2009, at the INFONET Centre, University of Calicut. The purpose of the Workshop is to familiarize the participants with the open source KOHA software developed by Katipo Communications, New Zealand. KOHA is considered as a highly sophisticated Integrated Library System (ILS) in the open source domain which offers full featured ILS including OPAC, circulation, cataloguing, acquisitions, serials control etc. Objectives: • To introduce the LINUX operating system to the LIS professionals. • To acquaint the participants with the installation of KOHA. • To provide extensive hands on training to the participants so as to enable them to work independently. Target Audience The Workshop will be of immense benefit to LIS professionals working in any type of library. The number of participants is restricted to 30 and admission will be strictly on a first-come-first-served basis. Extensive practical sessions/hands on training, enriched with interactive sessions will be the hallmark of the programme. Workshop Faculty The Workshop will be handled by experts with extensive practical experience in LINUX and KOHA. Participation Fee The Participation Fee for the Workshop is Rs.300 per participant. The fee covers the cost of course material, lunch and tea. In fiscal 2008, the Bank reiterated its focus on knowledge and learning, naming it as one of its six strategic directions.
