Version 72 of the Scholarly Electronic Publishing Bibliography is now available from Digital Scholarship. This selective bibliography presents over 3,250 articles, books, and other printed and electronic sources that are useful in understanding scholarly electronic publishing efforts on the Internet. This version adds hundreds of links to freely available journal articles from publishers as well as to e-prints of published articles housed in disciplinary archives and institutional repositories. Dear Sir/ Madam, We take this opportunity to inform you that Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology (DA-IICT), situated at Gandhinagar, Gujarat, is promoted by Reliance. It has been established on a 50-acre of land in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The Government of Gujarat has granted it the University status under the State Act and is recognized by University Grants Commission. The Institute has started functioning since August 2001 with a batch size of 240 students at undergraduate level in Information and Communication Technology (ICT). It also offers a variety of Masters' and Doctoral programs in ICT and allied areas. The Institute takes young and dynamic postgraduate freshers with minimum First Class Masters in Library and Information Science as Library Trainees. They should be well versed in computer application to Library and Information Services. Duration of Training is for a period for one year. The trainees gets a fixed stipend of Rs. 6500/-per month with no other facilities/ benefits, excepting casual leave. The Institute has fully computerized in-house operations and services of the Resource Centre and provides access to wide variety of digital collection, catering to the needs of the Faculty, Staff and Students. Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship This award fosters research in academic librarianship by encouraging and assisting doctoral students in the field with their dissertation research. Award $1,500 cash and a plaque donated by Thomson Scientific. Eligibility The recipient of the fellowship must meet the following qualifications: * Be an active doctoral student enrolled in an accredited degree-granting institution * Be engaged in researching a topic related to academic librarianship * Have completed all coursework * Have had a dissertation proposal accepted by the institution * A recipient of the fellowship may not receive it a second time. * Applicant need not be an ACRL member Criteria Proposals will be judged primarily on merit with emphasis on the following: * Potential significance of the research to the field of academic librarianship. (No attempt will be made to define academic librarianship, but the subject should be consistent with topics usually published in College & Research Libraries or key refereed library and information science research journals or presented at ACRL meetings.) * Validity of the methodology and proposed methods of analysis * Originality and creativity * Clarity and completeness of the proposal * Presentation of a convincing plan for completion in a reasonable amount of time * Evidence of a continuing interest in scholarship such as a previous publication record Awardee Obligation Recipients of the fellowship are required to submit a 6-10 page report of the results of their research to the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) within two months of the project's completion. A 500-word summary for possible publication in C&RL News is also due at that time. Submissions Qualified students who wish to be considered for the fellowship may apply by e-mailing a brief (ten pages or less double-spaced) proposal that includes the following: * Description of the research, including significance and methodology * Schedule for completion * Budget and budget justification for items for which support is sought. (Must be items for which no other support is available. Examples of acceptable items are printing, computer time, fees to subjects, statistical consulting, photography, artwork, typing, and professional travel.) * Name of dissertation advisor and committee members * Letter from dissertation advisor endorsing the proposal * Completed checklist confirming applicant eligibility An up-to-date curriculum vitae should accompany the proposal. Because of limits imposed by timing considerations, applications may be made for research under way, e.g., a student who begins research in the fall may apply for support for expenses incurred from the fall until the time the award is made. Environmental day- Al Gore and information superhighway

Dear Sir/Madam, Al Gore- Former US vice-president, who won the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize for his untiring effort in creating the awareness of climate change around the world along with the IPCC An Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change headed by R.K.Pachauri, Director of The Energy and Resource Institute (TERI), New Delhi, India. Al Gore is the first to use the word Information Superhighway as a US congress senator and during his presidential campaign in 2000, which later became the nomenclature of information world. Al Gore was a firm supporter for widespread use of computers, particularly in schools and libraries during his tenure as a senator of white House, Washington, D.C. US. It is also time to remember his role in getting financial assistance for the initiation of Digital Library Project Phase-1 from The National Science Foundation (NSF). The bibliometric analysis of scholarly publications on climate change depicting in his Academy Award winning Documentary An Inconvenient Truth is also notable here. Robert Kahn and Vinton Cerf- inventor of Internet Protocol noted in a scholarly article that Al Gore was the first political leader to recognize the importance of the Internet and to promote and support its development. Big Buck Bunny: open content movie

Dear Friends, The Amsterdam based 'Blender Institute' announced release of the short 3D animation movie 'Big Buck Bunny'. "The primary intent of the movie was to stimulate the development of open source 3D software" said producer and Institute director Ton Roosendaal, "But the result equals on artistic level as well as on technical ingenuity the quality of what you would expect from large animation studios". The movie differentiates itself mostly by its totally open character. Not only open source tools such as the 3D suite Blender were used to create the movie, but also the movie itself - including all assets as used in the animation studio - will be freely accessible for everybody to reuse, to learn from it or just to enjoy it. The promotion of Open Content creation and distribution is one of the main goals of the Creative Commons, the organization that created the 'Creative Commons' licenses, which have been widely adopted by artists, musicians, and other creative individuals who wish to freely share their creative endeavors.
