Dear Colleagues, It has been a dream of many libraries to make their library catalogues accessible over web. Many libraries who were earlier using CDS/ISIS (or its different versions) has been switching over to commercial library automation softwares, as CDS/ISIS was not able to perform the complete library automation. But now, the utility of of CDS/ISIS (or its different versions) is gaining momentum in the Digital Library environment, due to emergence of tools like GenISISWeb. Using GenISISWeb it is possible to create web based Digital Libraries, to create WebOPAC of your library which is in CDS/ISIS, to create electronic Journals gateways for your subscribed/print journals etc. Based on the practical application of GenISISWeb for more than 2 years in creating Multimedia Digital Library, Web OPACs, e-journals Gateways, Software Library etc we are organising a practical workshop on 'BUILDING WEB BASED INFORMATION SYSTEMS USING GENISISWEB' at IIITM-K Thiruvananthapuram,Kerala during 11-12 April 2007 as per the details given below. For more details and registration form visit workshop website http://www.iiitmk.ac.in/genisis ================================= WORKSHOP ON BUILDING WEB BASED INFORMATION SYSTEMS USING GENISISWEB Organised by Digital Library & Information Services Indian Institute of Information Technology & Management Kerala (IIITM-K), Thiruvananthapuram Date: 11 - 12 April 2007 Time 9.30 AM - 4.30 PM Venue: IIITM-K, Technopark Campus, Thiruvananthapuram 695581 About the Workshop Information and Communication Technology has made profound impact on the society in general and in the field of library and information science in particular. Availability of modern ICT infrastructure forced the libraries to offer many of their services over network, especially over the Web. Emergence of e-only resources, requirement from users for e-resources, and availability of suitable communication mechanisms etc have also compelled to provide electronic information services. In order to provide such speedy services, libraries need to equip themselves with different tools, which enable web-based information dissemination. Provision of Web based information service is costly and some times becomes unaffordable to many Libraries. Alternatively they may depend on free/low cost solutions for web based information services. The workshop will orient and train the participants in establishing and managing such services. The practice sessions will be based on GenIsisWeb. GenISIS is a state-of-the-art package used to create Web interface for CDS/ISIS databases (or it's different versions) for developing applications like Digital Libraries, Web based catalogues (WebOPAC), e-Journal Gateways etc. GENISIS is based on the Web CDS/ISIS interface WWWISIS by BIREME. This Workshop focuses on giving a practical orientation to GenISISWeb for creating web based Information Service. Participation is expected from Librarians, LIS Students, Academia and Industry. Objectives To give practical orientation to: Ø Develop bibliographic database using WinISIS Ø To publish WinISIS Database over the Web Ø To develop Digital Libraries using GenISISWeb Ø To develop Web OPAC using GenISISWeb.
