University of Calicut LIS Conference (UCALIS 2007) : Invitation and Call for Papers

University of Calicut LIS Conference 2007 (UCALIS 2007) will be organized during 28 - 29 March 2007 on the theme Future Librarianship in Knowledge Society. UCALIS 2007 is being organised jointly by Department of Library and Information science & CHMK Library at University of Calicut, Kerala, INDIA Visit Conference Website http://www.freewebs.com/ucalis2007/ Invitation It is a fact that Libraries and Librarians are facing lots of challenges in the Knowledge Society driven by Information Technology. It is also a fact that the emerging knowledge society offers many new opportunities. The new technologies have changed the ways in which information is published, communicated, stored, organized, accessed and utilized. The library without walls in the form of digital repositories and portals are accessible to users without any barriers of space and time. It is important to discuss and understand the implications of these changes for the profession. , With this objective in mind the UCALIS 2007 will focus on the following Themes: Main Theme: "Future Librarianship in Knowledge Society" Sub Themes: Knowledge Management, Knowledge Society, Future Librarianship Library and information professionals and students of Library and Information science are cordially invited to attend the conference. Call for Papers Papers are invited for presenting in the UCALIS 2007 Conference from practicing Library and Information Professionals, Library Science Teachers and Researchers, IT Professionals, Users of Information, Knowledge Management Practitioners etc. Papers should contain original contributions of knowledge, research findings, case studies etc. General presentations may be avoided. Papers should not exceed 3000 words in A4 size word document. The paper should include name of the author(s), affiliation, mailing address, telephone and e-mail address, submitted in CD-ROM along with the printed version. The paper may be sent to the address mentioned below so as to reach us on or before 28th February 2007. The electronic version of text can also be sent to bavakuttym@yahoo.co.in Registration Fee Registration fee is Rs. 300/- per delegate. The Registration fee includes conference kit, tea and working lunch on the days of conference. The campus is at Thenhipalam, a hilly village surrounded by green valleys. It is 23 kilometres south of Calicut, the capital city of erstwhile Zamorins, 12 kilometres from Karipur airport and 14 kilometres from Parappanangadi Railway Station. Calicut city is well connected with buses and trains from various parts of the country. The campus is on NH 17 and regular buses are available from Calicut city. Climate The campus and surrounding areas will have dry climate. Light summer cloth is sufficient. Accommodation A good number of moderate to luxury hotels are available near by the University campus. Accommodation is also available to a limited extend in University Guest House which will be provided on a first come first serve basis. Return journey Delegates are advised to book their return trip in advance to avoid last minute efforts and inconveniences. Places of tourist interest Calicut beach and Beypore port are within one hour journey. Pookkod lake, Thusharagiri waterfalls, Peruvannamuzhi Dam and Kappad beach where Vasco-da-Gama landed are within easy reach. The famous Sreekrishna Temple at Guruvayoor can be reached by bus within three hours.
