Call for Papers/ Participation Seminar cum Workshop on “Web Resources in Social Science Research” The Department of Library and Information Science (University of Kashmir) in collaboration with “Indian Council of Social Science Research” (ICSSR), North Western Region, Chandigarh and U.G.C Academic Staff College (University of Kashmir) is organizing a three day seminar/workshop on “Web Resources in Social Science Research” for teachers and research scholars of Social Sciences belonging to universities and colleges of the ‘North Western Region of India’ from 15-17 March, 2010. The workshop will focus on emerging Web resources, their format , discovery, effectiveness and authencity in diverse fields of Social Sciences, besides providing opportunity to participants in gaining valuable insights, exchange ideas, explore new opportunities and build new web enabled networks. The department invites teachers, research scholars and other stake holders from Social Science disciplines to contribute a paper or participate in the event to share their ideas and enrich themselves of the latest trends in the Social Science research. We are also enclosing herein the registration form which should reach to us by or before February 25, 2010. Topics for Paper Submission 1. Web Resources: General Features, Opportunities and Challenges. 2. Web Resources in Social Sciences: General overview 3. Web 2.0 and its Allied Tools • Wikis, Blogs etc • Social Networking etc. 4. Open Access to Scholarship and Retrieval Tools • Open Access Initiatives, Open Access Repositories • Open Access Journals, Books, Theses and Dissertations, etc. • Open Source Softwares • Web Retrieval Tools and Strategies 5. Web Resources and Copyright Issues 6. Web Resources: Evaluation, Management and Citation Patterns 7. Plagiarism in the web Era: Status and challenges. Important Dates Paper Submission Deadline: February 15, 2010 Notification of Acceptance: February 25, 2010 Seminar/Workshop Date: March 15-17, 2010. Note: All the papers should be submitted to the department either online at the following e-mail address shafi_sm@rediffmail.com or sumeersuheel@gmail.com or handed over personally to Director/Head of the Department/Organising Secretary. Teachers, Scholars and other stakeholders can also participate without contributing a paper. The registration in such case is open up to March 10, 2010. However, it will be based on first come first serve basis. Registration Teachers and other Stakeholders: Rs. 1000.00 or (Rs.500.00 for Paper Contributors) Research Scholars: Rs 500.00 (The registration fee includes seminar kit, working lunch and refreshment) Mode of Payment: Payment can be made in cash or through demand draft /cheque drawn in favour of Head, Department of Library and Information Science, University of Kashmir. Accommodation: Outstation participants can apply for accommodation and can avail the same on first come basis in the University Guest Houses. However, outside accommodation can also be made on request in economical Guest Houses and hotels.
