This is really a bad image of Librarians for forthcoming generation
and too for present one. Monster otherwise did not provide any help

This should be protested writing in TOI and other important media and
also to broadcasting minister,Knowledge commission through ALA.

Dear All LIS Professionals,
so many responses on the Monster ad from all of you. One thing is sure after seeing so many responses, we are united.
Let me tell you what i understood from Monster ad.
At the start of ad a young guy who poses to be budding rockstar shoutig loudly lands up in the job of librarian in a library where keeping silence is must.
My observation (totally personal) says around a rockstar there will be a lot of sound of instruments, loud singing, etc. which will create noise where as a librarian has to maintain silence in library.
The guy is singing as aspiring rockstar but anyhow he became librarian where he has to keep silence.
Therefore i don't think anything objectionable is shown in the disrespect of our profession. Only the thing is there are two separate requirements for work environment in both professions , silence in a library and a loud noise in a rock concert.
well, it also shows librarian warns scholars to keep silence and maintain peaceful environment which is necessary for concentration in studies. After all, due to study and education only, scholars may become great leaders.
At the last, All of us have to remain positive towards our LIS profession.
my views are personal and they are not to hurt anyone's feelings from LIS community.
with best regards,
amit@urservice

Now that I have company if I get into the line of fire, I thought I'll add my view. Every profession has a public image. Think doctor, nurse, lawyer, businessman (banker, salesman, shopkeeper), secretary and the strongest one - politician. Think of each of these and we can conjure up typical images in our minds. There are also qualities we associate with each one, some positive other negative: Doctors and nurses are noble lawyers are liars salesmen are slick and secretaries are always female. In fact, if you search for "librarian" in google or Yahoo image search, you will find a lady with a tight and prominent bun behind a pair of thick glasses. That's the public image of a librarian. We could bring down the ad, but will that change our image?
