Re: [LIS-Forum] LIS Education
Dear Madam, There are various approaches that can be adopted by LIS departments and some specialized organizations to prepare corporate librarians. In order to fulfill this requirement, first we have to see that whats are the necessary qualifications and experience needed for a corporate librarians. Most of the corporate libraries are fully automated and use latest technologies to provide best quality based services to their patrons. This includes content management, Community portal development for social networking, CAS services through blogs and through some others web 2.0 technology like wikies. Knowledge Management is also more associated with this and many libraries are now proactively providing "Knowledge Management services". Some of the leading organizations that have already started some specialized programs for LIS professionals include NCSI, Indian Institute of Science, which is providing specialised training in information and Knowledge Management(IKM). This training programme is now being continued as LIM (Library and information management) in collaboration with JRD Tata Memorial Library, IISc. ADIS course (Now MS-Library and information science), ISI , Bangalore has also the latest curriculum and infrastructure to prepare corporate librarians. Library and information Science departments can take reference from curriculum of these organizations and can develop their curriculum based on that. There are several other issues that LIS departments should have to care of like Specialized staff , Infrastructure etc. Regards, Shri Ram Pandey - MLIS(BHU), IKM(IISc), UGC-NET (JRF) NCSI, IISC, Bangalore-560012 -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean.
