Roja Muthiah Research Library in association with Association of British Scholars, Chennai Chapter presents a three day National Workshop on Setting up an Archives (1st - 3rd December 2008) Setting up an Archives is a workshop on providing insights into conservation and preservation issues of Library and archival material. The three day workshop is planned to provide a comprehensive model to deal with archiving institutional material. The workshop will address issues of metadata creation in addition to conservation issues to make the collection a meaningful one that would provide easy access to users. This model is a flexible and a constantly evolving one depending on the needs of the institution and the end users. "Setting up an archives" is for people wishing to start an archives afresh and also to those who want to reorganize an existing archives. Individuals who do not have an exposure to archives could also benefit from the course. The following topics would be covered at the workshop: Paper Based Material Print material, Bound Volumes, Manuscripts, Single Sheets Digital Preservation Photographs Sound Records Storage Issues Archiving Web Resources Disaster Preparedness Resource persons trained from reputed institutions will be conducting the programme.
