TCS Library Network has been globally recognized as excellent by the International community of information professionals. Its for the first time that this award has crossed the American shores since its inception in 2002. (Mumbai, India). The SLA Business & Finance Division is recognizing the Library & Information Centre (LIC) for the quality of its support to an international organization and its exemplary application of management techniques and tools including: strategic planning using core functional teams a strong customer focus through domain-specific alerts and bulletins mature metrics collection including Balanced Scorecards and enterprise-wide satisfaction surveys an employee development program known as Integrated Career and Learning Management System (iCALMS) a focus on process management that includes a global reference desk and service level agreement The Tata Consultancy Services Library and Information Centre is a network of 83 facilities (65 libraries and 18 self-help library corners) spread across 17 cities in India and 10 abroad, and staffed by 130 professionals. The SLA Business & Finance Division?s Center of Excellence awards serve to recognize quality as a priority for the successful management and deliveryof information. The awards take their inspiration from the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Awards, which are given annually to US organizations to recognize and promote quality as a critical part of innovation and competitiveness. The "Centers of Excellence" Awards, like the Baldrige Award, recognize customer-driven quality and leadership in the framework of an organization dedicated to the gathering, analysis and dissemination ofinformation in the business community. The Centres of Excellence Award will be officially presented at the 2009 SLA Conference in Washington, D.C.. Immediately following the award presentation, the award recipient will speak about the best practices for which the organization is being recognized. The presentation of the awards will occur on Monday, June 15, at 5:30pm at the SLA Business & Finance Division Open House and Awards Reception. BACKGROUND The awards serve to recognize the best of "best practices" in three categories: Technology, Service, and Management. Any member of SLA can apply for consideration in any of the three categories and all entries are evaluated by a panel of judges who are members of the Business & Finance Division. The award winners represent excellence and quality at its highest level, and in previous years have included such outstanding organizations as the Science, Industry & Business Library of the New York Public Library; the J.
