Dear Rafi, Transparant wrap using sheets is a temporary solution, the best available solution is binding. The old time tested method of binding can extend the life of the document by 5 to 10 years in the case of academic libraries. Still if you are very interested, please visit www.gresswell.com. They are the world leaders in library materials. The cost of book coverings / vistafoils are very high. In Trivandrum, the erstwhile British Library was using this extensively for the physical processing of documents. But the best, cheapest and durable solution is binding. Dear LIS Forum members
I wish to seek your advice regarding preservation of books. Here, in my library, the most demanded books are getting dilapidated due to constant use. Normally we get the books bounded when they becomes dilapidated. But after binding the books lose their beauty and freshness. Hence, we plan to wrap the books with transparent plastic sheet. Is it a feasible solution? My question is how to extend the freshness of books/give extra life to books.
Please advice
