SALIS publishes national andinternational journals, proceedings and newsletters forexchange of information and knowledge among LISprofessionals. SALIS instituted many awards toencourage and motivate LIS professionals. About the Conference The Digital India movement is a flagship programme ofthe Government of India with a vision to transform Indiainto a digitally empowered society and knowledgeeconomy. The GOI is taking many initiatives to makedigital India such as e-governance, digital transactions invarious sectors such as banking, education, publicdistribution system, e-commerce, transport etc. DigitalIndia policy will transform our nation and createopportunities for all citizens by harnessing digitaltechnologies. The role of library is shifting fromdistribution of books to focusing on learning, readingand literacy. Libraries are the effective self-learningcentres for all in a society and play a major role toempower the citizens to create a knowledge society.Libraries are also taking many initiatives to contribute inmaking the Digital India. Libraries need to have nationalpolicy for public, academic and special libraries not onlyfor creating, storing, disseminating digital service butalso have a policy on digital transactions and digitalpreservation of library resources, traditional knowledgeand culture of our society. This two days conference willprovide a platform for LIS professionals, teachers,educators and policy makers to discuss the role oflibraries on-line with the Digital India movement.
