Dear all, Does the changing profile of the users of library services, particularly in metropolitan cities have ever appered you to be a bit more challenging in comparison to dealing with our own traditional Indian users? What I am hinting at is that whether the ever increasing volume of multinational clienteles speaking in different langauges (however poor in English), showing different kind of cultural behaviour and expecting a new kind of service need some rethinking at our part? Is it true that dealing with them professionally with all seriousness of our vocation requires a paradigm shift in our understanding of how the library activities should be carried out; how the behaviour of library staff need to be modified/sensitized; what new facilities (like comfortable reading halls, good working toilets, efficient canteens, etc.) may be added; how the library hours can be lenghtened; the period of loan and library fines may be standardized in keeping with international library practices; over all a new work culture with emphasis on resposiveness, answerability, openess and all fairness in dealing with the users without any prejudice on account of race/colour/language/nationalitities are required? In light of the above, would you support the demand that the syllabus of the paper concerned with Library Administration require certain changes with more pronounced emphasis on "Organizationa Behavior"?
