'Better research in applied sciences'Nobel laureate speaks at University of Mumbai MUMBAI: Nobel Laureate Professor Kurt Wuthrich was in Mumbai University to deliver a lecture on Impact of research in natural noble sciences on human daily life. Wuthrich stressed on the need to strengthen the researches in applied sciences in India. India has progressed a lot in basic sciences but lags behind in terms of applied sciences, he said. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2002 for his development in nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy for determining three-dimensional structure of biological macromolecules in solution. He mentioned that NMR in structural biology gives new remedies for diseases like HIV and cancer. From this academic year, the university has initiated Nobel Laureate Lecture Series for which recipients will be invited to speak in their discipline.
