Believing in the axiom that like charity, knowledge begins at home, the Department of Library and Information Science (DLIS), Mysore organized a written quiz - �How well do you know your library?� for the students of MLISc and MIM on the Saturday, October 8, 2005. The objective of the quiz was to motivate the students to know more about their library. The quiz prompted the students to visit the nook and corner of the Mysore University library (MUL) observing the facilities and services available; interact with the library staff; and interact among themselves about the MUL to prepare for the competition. Fifty five students attended the competition. The event is organized as one of the activities of Mysore University Library and Information Science Association (MULISSA) for the current year. Quiz format: The quiz was a question based competition involving fifty objective type questions. The questions centered on Library building, Resources, Services offered, Infrastructure available and Library Staff of the Mysore University Library. This written quiz had negative marking too. The winners were Mr. Mahadeva Prasad and Mr. Nagashayana of III and I Semester MLISc respectively. Some reflections: 1) Not surprisingly, the third semester students have generally performed better than the first semester students. This is because the third semester students have more acquaintance with the library than their first semester counterpart. 2) Only small percentage of students (10%) managed to score more than 50% marks. 3) A few students failed to get very obvious and common sense based answers right (such as the direction of the University building, loan period etc).
