Dear Professionals, This is to inform the sad demise of Dr. Srinivas Havanur, a well known Librarian, research scholar and Kannada writer. He expired in Bangalore on Monday, April 5. He was 82. He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter. May his soul rest in peace on eternity. A brief account of Dr.Srinivas Havanur: He started his career as a librarian with the Baba Atomic Research Centre in Mumbai. In 1984, he resigned his post to join the University of Mangalore as the Head of Department of Kannada, and in 1986 he took charge of the Department of Kannada in the University of Bombay. He wrote about 60 books, including short stories, novels, essays and literary criticism. His work, "Hosagannadada Arunodaya", is said to be an important text for those who wish to research Kannada language and culture. He has earned several honours such as the Rajyotsava Award, Kannada University's, Hampi, Nadoja, Alva's Nudi Siri and Sandesha awards. He was given a pubic honour when he completed 80 years and presented a rare work, "Sankathana", a compilation of his own select articles on the occasion. - Francis For and on behalf of, Karnataka State Library Association (KALA)
