Dr Khaiser Nikam Reader in LISc University of Mysore Mysore - 570 006 Email:khaiser.nikam@gmail.com Mulissa Friday talk -1 - Friday the 18/09/06 -30.30 to 6.00 PM The department of library science under the aegis of Mulissa – Mysore University Library and Information Students’ Association, on every Friday after noon organizes a special lecture on different topics. This has been the practice for many decades now .The present academic year’s lecture series were inaugurated on last Friday the 18th September ’06.The excerpts of the function are as follows: "University of Mysore, Department of Library and Information Science is one of the first departments to have been initiated during the erstwhile Mysore state in 1962 and started functioning in the year 1965 under the headship of Late Prof. P K Patil. And Dr S.R. Ranganathan, the father of Library Science, framed the BLISc syllabus for the department " said Dr Khaiser Nikam, faculty advisor, while speaking about the decades old MULISSA - students' forum,, at the inaugural function of the association. Prof. A R Seetha Ram, from Ramakrishna Institute of Moral and Spiritual Education (RIMSE) and the Director of Paramahamsa Yoga Center, Bhogadi Mysore was the guest speaker. Prof Seeth Ram, while delivering the inaugural special Lecture on " Spiritual Education and Personality Development " recalled how he has been associated with MyDLIS & Library Science, as his brother in law late Sri .TKS Iyengar was the librarian at IISc,Bangalore , and his wife Dr.Gita Seetha Ram ,CFTRI library , is the alumnus of this department . Prof. Seetha Ram who was to give a talk for about 45 minutes went up to 1hr and 45 minutes ,with out the knowledge of the audiences . All the faculty members and the students immensely benefited from his talk, as the talk was followed by a " Yogic tips workshop". In his talk Dr Ram emphasized on the need for positive attitude, right perception and how yoga can be practiced for total growth of the personality of an individual. Dr.Mallinath Kumbar, Chairman of the deportment gave his presidential remarks at the end. Other faculty members – Prof.R Shalini Urs, Dr,M .Chandrashekar and Dr N .S. Harinarayana were present. Ms Smitha, A.P, welcomed the gathering; Ms.Sajan C compeered and Naveen Kumar delivered Vote of thanks.
