IASLIC NASSDOC- ICSSR Workshop
on Access to Social Science Information in Digital Era
Social Science with its divergence groups of academic disciplines from
arts to humanities, study the human aspects of the world emphasizing the
use of the scientific method and rigorous standards of evidence in the
study of humanity, including quantitative and qualitative methods. Social
scientists engage in research and theorize about both aggregate and
individual behaviours.
In these present days, social science researches spread across a wide
range of disciplines presenting new hoizons in the research methods. And
with the emergence of web technology, Internet resources for education and
research for the social sciences have much impact in the field. So the
present workshop is planned to offer an easy to use and powerful tool for
discovering the best Internet resources to enrich the services towards
scientists/researchers by accessing social science information
exhaustively.
Objectives
1. To provide background knowledge of the Social Science Information
System.
2. To offer hands on experience on Accessing Social Science Information in
the Digital Era.
Methodology
The workshop lectures will be followed by demonstration and hands-on
practices as far as practicable. The Lab facilities (with one computer for
two participants) will be made available for practice.
Resource Persons
Resource Persons will be invited from different Social Science Research
Institutions / Universities in India.
Target Participants
Library and Information Science Professionals, Research Scholars, and
other interested persons. The Workshop is confined to twenty participants
only and will be filled strictly on first come first served basis.
Venue:
Lecture theatre and the Computer Laboratory of the Department of Library
and Information Science, First Floor, Integrated Building, Jadavpur
University, Kolkata � 700 032. This location is about 16 kilometers from
Howrah Railway Station, 12 kilometers from Sealdah Railway Station and 25
kilometers from Kolkata Airport. The Venue can be reached by Bus/Taxi from
the railway station/airport.
Date: March 20-23, 2007
Last date of Registration: March 01, 2007 if register in NASSDOC, New
Delhi and March 07, 2007 if register in IASLIC, Kolkata.
Climate
The Climate in Kolkata during March will be moderately warm. The
temperature is likely to be around 300 C.
Registration Fee
Registration fee of Rs. 200/- only per participant is to be paid by DD in
favour of ICSSR payable at New Delhi.
Accommodation
Accommodations may be arranged, if requests are received by the Workshop
Director at least fifteen days before the Workshop. However, participants
will have to bear the charges for accommodation and food.
