Dear Knowledge Managers, I was a participant in the  workshop on KOHA conducted at Marian College, Kuttikkanam, Kerala from 17-5-2012 to 19-05-2012 with the Participation of Mahatma Gandhi University Library, Kottayam. Kuttikkanam is a hilly tourist place with its salubrious climate and 'Marian'  is a NAAC "A' Grade College praise worthy for its elegant structures, infrastructural facilities and its hospitality. The Library is the cynosure of the college headed by Mr.Jobin Jose, who was the convener of the workshop. During the inaugural session the Manager,Fr.Ruben J.Thannickal, described the Library as the "heart" of the institution.Prof. Ruble Raj, the Principal, expressed their care and regards for the Library and praised the Librarian Mr.Jobin Jose for his services and the extension activities. The principal informed about their programme "read for gold" for students initiated for enhancing their reading habit  in which one girl student was prized gold for reading 385 books. Prof. Ruble Raj described him as the only principal who visits  the library three times a day.  The koha workshop was led by Mr.Vimal Kumar and Mr.Prajesh from M.G.University.Mrs.Laila T.Abraham, the Deputy Librarian of the University supervised the programme.The workshop actually dispelled the fear for Koha and proved to be the much user friendly LMS, which is available at free cost.There were 30 participants from Kerala,Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Every body was curious for learning. The valedictory session was chaired by the Vice-Principal. During the session I described the the library professionals as "Knowledge Managers". As the present day Librarians are not the" book keepers" of the past, the designation-- "Librarian" which doesn't generate an instant respect need to be changed as "Knowledge Manager".The professionals are requested for placing their comments on the change of designation through LIS- Forum.
