Dear Sir/Madam, The recent budget presented by the Finance Minister Nirmala Seetharaman has imposed the customs duty on books published by foreign Publishers.  The custom duty is not only imposed on books but also on newsprints. This is very retrograde in nature. The 10% percent customs duty on newsprints is also going to have negative impact on print journalism. The daily newspaper  unlike news media or TV journalism  have been critical of governments and by doing so have strengthen the democracy. Government should withdraw its order to impose customs duty on books and newsprints.  The increasing  customs duty also impact the readers strongly as the price of newspapers and books goes up people think twice to purchase or subcribe  books and news papers.
