A graduate may now be able to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy from Mumbai University. The University apex body, the Management Council, has decided to make graduates eligible for pursuing PhDs from this academic year. However the candidates will have to clear an Aptitude Test conducted by the University Department or Research Centre from where they want to pursue the Ph.D. Earlier graduates were not eligible for the course. Only a post graduate with minimum 60% marks could opt for research. Managing Council has now also decided to relax the eligibility criterion for post graduates. Now a post-graduate with 55% will also be eligible for research. Only Mumbai University has implemented the new PhD guidelines and it was done by vice-chancellor Dr. Vijay Khole.
