New Year Greetings
Dear Members, Several members of this list have been posting new year greeting messages. All such messages have been held back from approval because of the possibility of overloading of IISc mail server. As you may be aware, there are more than 6000 members on this list. For each message that is approved nearly 6000 mails are to be sent out. Its therefore requested that the members should refrain from posting greeting and congratulatory messages. Such messages could instead be sent to the concerned individuals. Also, while posting conference/workshop announcements, the postings should contain just the bare minimal information and a web link could be provided for details. This will reduce the size of the posting considerably and also only those interested in the event will pursue the matter further. Some important posting guidelines to be strictly followed: 1. Keep the posting short and provide link(s) to web site(s) where applicable 2. No HTML mail, please Most of the lis-forum mails are being received as 'multipart' messages, which implies that the messages are in text format as well as in HTML and they are bulky as well. Ensure that only 'plain text' messages are sent. HTML is meant for web pages, not emails. 3. No attachments Postings with Attachments (including .vcf files) are not allowed. 4. Replying to Digests In a high volume list like lis-forum, subscribers may choose to receive mails in digested mode. However, when replying to such messages, please avoid just hitting the reply button. This creates meaningless messages like "Re: [Lis-Forum] Digest, Vol 100, Issue 10" which does not reflect what you are talking about. Please edit the subject to reflect what topic you are replying to. 5. No Chain Postings Do not club the lis-forum mails with other email addresses. A mail simultaneously sent to more than 10 users will not reach the list. This is to eliminate possible spammers/bulk mailers in reaching the list. Please ensure that the above guidelines are strictly followed. By doing so, you will be helping the moderation process to be quicker and simpler. Season's greetings and best wishes for the new year. - Moderator NCSI, IISc
