Dear Professional Friends,
‘If a hermit lives in a state of ecstasy, his lack of comfort becomes the
height of comfort. He must relinquish it’ says Jean Cocteau. I recalled
this when I read the letter from Dr. K.N. Prasad, the man who joined the
stalwarts of LIS and made our profession visible, honourable and
respectable.
Dr. KNP known for his firm decision, straight forwardness, and simplicity,
of-course known for his smile and moustache too, is not so old to
relinquish from his honorary services to LIS in general, and Sarada
Ranganathan Endowment for Library Science (SRELS), in particular.
Respecting Dr. KNP’s decision, we wish all success for his future
endeavours and happy time. We expect your guidance and ‘strong’ directions
for our professional growth and to support the associations / organizations
with which we are associated.
With fond regards,

Dear Professionals,
The Lis-forum posting of Dr. K.N. Prasad mentioning that he is relinquishing
from the services of Sarada Ranganathan Endowment for Library Science
(SRELS), Bengaluru w.e.f. 30th April 2016 worries all LIS professionals.
His association with SRELS, particularly the contributions in successfully
running one of the very few (5-6) high quality Indian peer reviewed
journals dedicated to LIS, "SRELS Journal of Information Management" are
the ones all the professionals should remember. Just now I had detailed
discussion with Dr. Prasad, he is very firm in his decision, owing to lot
of personal commitments, although he loves SRELS, with which he has grown
for the last 43 years. Although the production aspects of this journal is
taken by Informatics, we need equally strong and competent scholar to run
the show. Yes, SRELS Endowment has other alternative and I am sure this
responsibility will be taken care.
Thank you Dr. Prasad, LIS Profession acknowledges your contributions.
Please be advising us, especially scholarly communicating youngsters.

It is a mixed feeling for me to read Dr Prasad's message of relinquishing
his office. To me, Dr Prasad is an unsung hero. Many of his
contributions largely went unnoticed in the profession. Working with
legendaries like Prof. Gopinath, Prof. Neelameghan, Prof. Seetharama, Prof.
Parthasarathy, and the host of others, Dr Prasad has become a
legendary himself. I have had a good opportunity to interact and work with
him many times. He is jovial in his interactions but very strict and
meticulous in his actions. He is a tireless enthusiastic professional
worth emulating. He has been helpful to many. He has a special corner for
the students and Ph.D. scholars. He has helped and encouraged many of them
by guiding them to publish their research work. It is not disparaging to
others if I say Dr Prasad is one of the persons who has made SRELS what it
is today.
After a very long innings in the profession, he is getting much-deserved
rest for himself and his family. I wish him a long and healthy life.
There appears to be a lull at SRELS at present. I am sure SRELS would have
already taken steps to march ahead for taking its glory to further heights
that Dr Prasad would have shown them.
