Rajashekar Memorial Seminar on "VuFind - An Open Source Web Scale Discovery Tool" Date: November 22, 2014 (Saturday); 09: 00 AM - 04:00 PM Venue: Choksi Hall, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore - 560012 Registration fee: Rs. 250/- for Students and Rs. 500/- for budding professionals (includes working Lunch). Seminar coverage: The Seminar is being conducted with an intention to create awareness amongst the students and budding information professionals about Web Scale Discovery Services and an Open Source Tool, "VuFind" for implementing such services. Discovery services are capable of searching quickly and seamlessly across a vast range of local and remote content and providing relevancy-ranked results in the type of intuitive interface that today's information seekers expect. VuFind is a library resource portal designed and developed for libraries by libraries. VuFind, an Open Source s/w, enables users to search and browse through all of library's resources such as Catalog Records; Locally Cached Journals; Digital Library Items; Institutional Repository; Institutional Bibliography etc. by replacing the traditional OPAC. VuFind is completely modular so one can implement just the basic system, or all of the components. And since it's an open source, you can modify the modules to best fit your need or you can add new modules to extend your resource offerings. Kindly bring this to the attention of the budding professionals and encourage them to attend the seminar. Participants will get an opportunity to interact with fellow professionals working in the industry and academia. Please note that no arrangements for accommodation are being made for outstation participants. Number of participants restricted to 50 (due to Space constraint), it will be on first come first serve basis.
