Dear Professional colleagues, We wish you a very happy and prosperous new year 2011!!! This New Year has something new for you. Starting from Dr. S R Ranganathan, father of library science in India, many Library and Information professionals have made outstanding contributions to the growth and development, continued success and exceptional reputation of Indian Librarianship, Library advances teaching, learning, research and community service by providing outstanding collections, access to the world of knowledge, excellence in service and an appropriate library environment, all of which are client-focused and responsive to the needs of the Library and Information Services. Some Professionals with the help of Satkal Trust has planned a project known as LIS Hall of Fame www.lishalloffame.in for honouring 101 Best Librarians and Information Scientists for their excellent contributions in the field of Library and Information Science and also seeks support from all eminent Library & Information Professionals of India in selection of 101 Best Librarians & Information Scientists. This initiative of honouring best librarians and information scientist is to recognize exceptional individuals, achievements, and contributions to the Indian Library and information profession in particular and Library and Information Profession worldwide in general. With the support of Satkal Trust, a team of some professionals has undertaken this task of preparation of a list of 101 Best Librarians & Information Scientists of India. The work is purely on honorary basis and no financial incentives will be provided to the Project Team. The Satkal Trust is the sponosrer and close associate and Prof. Jagindar Singh Ramdev, the founder patron of Satkal Trust is the initiator of the project. The work is in the interest of the profession. The period covers for this selection of eminent librarians both working / or retired and also dead / or alive is from year 1900 to 2000. The job in hand is very challenging. Therefore cooperation of all library and information professionals in India is solicited. For above project a website has been launched at http://www.lishalloffame.in/Index.aspx Criteria It is proposed to adopt following methodology for the selection of 101 Best Librarians and Information Scientists of India during the 20th Century ;- a.. Invitation of nominations to prepare initial list of 200 Librarians and Information Scientists. How to Nominate 1.. The proposals/nominations will be invited from the various Library & Information Professionals working in India. 2.. The nominations will be invited through an announcement in various Libraries list serves, SATKAL Trust Website and Websites of different professional associations. 3.. The nominations will be invited only from the Library & Information Professionals who are minimum Graduate in Library Science and are having minimum 10 years of experience and presently are working on a designation minimum at the level of Assistant Librarian in University Library or above or equivalent designations. 4.. The person who is nominating someone must have some association with the person in form of personal association, professional association or organizational association. The names of two professionals at the level of University Librarian or equivalent should be provided to further verify the nominations. Who can be Nominated 1.. Nominees can be both working / or retired and also dead / or alive. 2.. Nominees must have worked / working at a level not below the rank of University Librarian / Professor / Chief Librarian or Head of any type of Libraries i.e. government, public, special and academic etc. However relaxation may be given by the Project Team. 3.. Nominees are expected to have shown an exceptional understanding of the library and information profession in India and may be nominated for outstanding contributions in the areas of: a.. Job performance b.. Client service c.. Communication skills d.. Collaboration with other libraries/sections e.. Contribution to the practice or profession of librarianship f.. Promotional activities g.. Teamwork h.. Special initiative/s i.. Creative problem solving j.. Leadership Selection 1.. After the receiving of nominations, list of 200 Best Librarians & Information Scientists will be prepared by the Project Team. Criteria for short listing of 200 entries will be decided by the Project Team. 2.. An Expert Committee will be formed to help Project Team in short listing of 101 Best Librarians & Information Scientists from the list of 200 Librarians & Information Scientists. The criteria of short listing of 101 Best Librarians & Information Scientists will be decided by the Project Team. 3.. The incomplete nominations will be rejected by the Project Team. The project team is not affiliated to any institution and is independent. The decision of the Project Team will be final and will be binding on all. An undertaking in this regard will have to sign by the each nomination / proposer. 4.. Any member of the above Project Team whose nomination is also received for consideration for above selection and also qualify the above criteria may be included in the list. 5.. No telephonic recommendations / suggestions will be entertained. 6.. Nominations will be accepted through E-mail and by registered post only. Prescribed Nomination Form may be downloaded from the website. However, there is no restriction on format and details about the nominee. 7.. Nominations must reach to the Convenor of the project on or before 28th February 2011. 8..
