Mr. Prabhu,
Kindly refer GFR(General Financial Rules) issued by Govt. of India about physical verification of libraries. The rules are very clear it is " 5 books per one thousand issued or consulted may be loss written off without the responsibility of librarian. The costly books of value more than Rs. 1000/- and rare books are not included for such losses, for which a board is need to form. In case you have problem in getting goverment order, you may refer swamy's compilation on GFR. For any refernce may contact

Dear Professionals:
While doing the Stocck Verfication of our library collection, we found that some books were missing/lost. Is there any standing rules for replacing the lost books or is it that the loss should be made good by the Librarian? Pls send to me if you have any GO or norms for the same.

Dear friends,
Still there is lack of comprehensive policy on loss of books in library, however right now the standard lines in this regard are only available in GFR that is applicable to govt library only. while fixing the responsiblility several facts should taken into account like available manpower in library to reduce the loss, duration / working hours of library, type of library user (children / adult), accessibility etc. best wishes, remain thank u
