Dear All, There is some detail about MetaMap Project. With the exponential development of the World Wide Web, there are so many metadata initiatives, so many organisations involved, and so many new standards that it's hard to get our bearings in this new environment. The problem is exacerbated by the fact that the names of most of these new standards are represented by acronyms. The MetaMap exists to help gather in one place information about these metadata initiatives, to try to show relationships among them, and to connect them with the various players involved in their creation and use. The MetaMap is a pedagogical tool in the form of a subway map, the goal of which is to help people understand metadata standards, sets, and initiatives related to information studies. The MetaMap project came about from the idea of representing "metaspace" as a subway map showing metadata standards related to information management. In this, metadata standards, sets, and initiatives (MSSIs) were considered and the theme lists were then organised into graphics representing subway lines. One can see metamap from the following site. http://mapageweb.umontreal.ca/turner/meta/english/index.html The site is a very good reference for metadata standards, sets and initiatives as well as it consists of detailed study about metadata, its origin, features, standards, components, types etc. Aurigene Discovery Technologies Limited, Electronic City, phase II, Hosur Road, Bangalore 562 158 Phone 8521314-16 Ext.- 422 Fax 852 6285 E-mail: madhureshsinghal@yahoo.com http://www.aurigene.com/
