Respected Friends, Greetings for the day, Please accept my heartiest gratitude for overwhelming positive response of the issue raised. Ever LIs professional is somehow is agree with this statement that this profession is the nice integration of all stake holders, I.e. Faculties, Students, Professional Groups –Online and Offline and last but not the least Government Bodies. I am in with same opinion of Dr. I.R.N.Goudar that each part has to take equal interest to change the scenario. No doubt some of them are doing well at their own level and making sincere efforts in this regard. I wish to add some points in list of their valuable and note to worthy suggestions… 11. A. In continuation of Point No. 11 of Dr. Goudar, delegation of authority is an essential element of successful management. 14. Unlike learned Professional Association, we have a nice array of online groups managed by learned professional friends. They are actively involved in many types of activities like arranging the one day conferences, seminars and group talks to enlighten and encourage the new entrants on regular basis. MLOSC and Mr.Ajay Kamble is the best example of this. These activities can be extended to state level and some time at national level also. 15. Library and Information word is associated with SCIENCE and this word demands the necessity of a LABORATORIES. This should be equipped with all necessary latest and updated tools and equipments. On the pattern of any scientific lab we can develop LIBRARY LAB where a student can get chance to aware the practical environments where they suppose to be serve later on. Again I am thankful and grateful to all friends for such nice support and encouragement. Please accept my heartiest wishes for Diwali and Kali Pooja ….. Hi All,
I’ve been tracking this discussion for quite a while now, every 3 to 6
months this topic comes up and go dormant and pops up again. That in itself
is an indication that it's one of the hot topics of this forum. Though there
are great suggestions on how we go about solving this puzzle, I thought it’s
just about time to bring in a different perspective to this discussion
and *listen
to the learned and experienced folks *(while admitting upfront that great
suggestions that can come from the not so experienced, gen-X as well) to
comment on. By the way, I would encourage more critical analysis of the
proposal.
To be realistic and on the dot, have a look at some of the excerpts from the
recent discussions:
“*….that each part has to take equal interest to change the scenario*”
*".......some universities have changed their LIS syllabus...*.”
*“......to new entrants they will change the whole scenario of LIS*”
If you look at the above three quotes and perhaps a whole lot of other
conversations that came up in the past, we can clearly see that the problem
is centered around a single keyword called ‘CHANGE’ And that’s where, I
think we should focus our attention on.
As you all are aware, we can’t bring change into the system by not having a
*vision*. To that effect, I see this as a clear case of *Vision *Vs* Reality
*. We have discussed endlessly about the reality; we have been brutally
forthcoming about the current state of affairs. But, we seem to be missing
the crux of change management, i.e. about the *VISION*. We don’t have a
vision 2020 or 2030 for us. I don’t know, if NKC had come up with vision
document, though. [*While I’m aware that there is a mission document
available through NKC*]
If you knew, it’s the vision, rather the power of vision that has been
transforming countries, that has been transforming societies. So, I think
forums of this sort should work towards creating a compelling vision for the
community by taking input from all. And that in itself will trigger change
in the system.
Looking at things from the current reality, I’m quite well aware that we are
far removed from the vision that each one of us would want to see ourselves
for our profession. I’m also reasonably well informed about the limits and
helplessness many of you may be facing. But for those who are trying hard
and making progress even in such harsh terrain, hats off to you. And the
below one is for you for making a difference to your life and to the world
around.
And this one is about a little boy and the famous writer Lauren Eisely. Lauren
was on holiday by the sea side when one night there was a big storm. Very
early next morning as he was walking on the beach he saw that among the
debris of the storm were literally hundreds of starfish which had been
thrown up on the sand the previous night.
As he walked along, Lauren saw someone in the distance bending down and
standing up and moving along. As Lauren neared him, he saw that it was a
little boy who was picking up starfish from the beach and was throwing them
back into the sea.
He went up to the boy and asked, “What are you doing?”
The boy said, “I’m throwing these starfish back into the sea so that they
don’t die.
Lauren says, he laughed at this statement.
So Lauren said to him, “Look, do you realize that on this beach alone there
are thousands of starfish? And then of course there are hundreds of beaches
in the world, on which are thrown up millions of starfish in every storm.
You are one kid, throwing one starfish into the sea! For God’s sake, what
difference does it make?”
The boy looked at Lauren; he looked at the starfish in his hand, he turned
and threw it far into the waves and said to Lauren, “It made a difference to
that one!”
Lauren said, “I walked away and kept walking for a long time. Then I
returned to the boy who was still there, picking up and throwing the
starfish into the sea. I silently picked up a starfish and threw it into the
sea. And we did this together for a long time.”
Let's strive to make a difference and be the change!
Thank you for reading and wish you all a great vision forward.
Till next time!
