Documentation Research & Training Centre (DRTC) Indian Statistical Institute 8th Mile, Mysore Road, RVCE Post Bangalore, 560 059 SEMINAR-3 (2018-2020) TITLE PLAGIARISM TODAY : DEFINITION, MANIFESTATION AND EXTENT Abstract Plagiarism is using the work, intellectual or artistic creation and ideas of another person, without giving him/her the due recognition and credit. Plagiarism is considered a serious misconduct in the current scenario. With greater accessibility to electronic text, the consequences of plagiarism are developing rapidly. This seminar addresses concepts of plagiarism, types, and factors of plagiarism, strategies to avoid it, anti-plagiarism software tools, their needs, and limitations. The comparative analysis of some open-source tools will also be highlighted. Libraries play a very important role in raising awareness among users by organizing training programs. This seminar discusses the role of a librarian to avoid plagiarism. This seminar is useful for a researcher to develop research, taking into account the impact of different forms of plagiarism and academic misconduct.
