Date: Fri, 9 Mar 2007 14:51:17 +0530 From: Rajan <rajankila@hotmail.com> The national Knowledge Commission Report and the Working Group Report on libraries are available at http://knowledgecommission.gov.in/ The content of the Reports indicates an emerging digital revolution in the library sector in India. In this scenario, the librarians need to emerge themselves as Knowledge Managers without which they will be by-passed by other knowledge workers. Our library schools should now focus more on practically useful information technology content and tools in their library educational programmes. The present situation leaves much to be desired. Digital Document Archiving with Winisis/ Genisis and Digital Library Development with Greenstone are the comparatively easier applications for digital knowledge management in our libraries. There are some other easy-to-use applications that need to be brought to the fore. We, the librarians, should focus more on them with enthusiasm to become better Knowledge Managers of our times.
