The Yogendra Library saw its humble beginnings in the early 1930s as a small collection of books belonging to the founder of the Institute. Over the last 9 decades it has grown into an extensive collection of different types of informative and educational materials. The rich collection includes rare books on the Science of Yoga; Classic Yoga Sutras of Patanjali in Sanskrit, Hindi, Gujarati and Spanish apart from English; Journals of the Institute dating back to 1933 and audio files of talks of Shri Yogendra and Doctor Jayadeva Yogendra. Apart from this, the library has books on various aspects of Yoga and its practical applications written by renowned authors and experts in the field. The mission of the library is to continue the work started by the Founder when he established the Institute more than 100 years ago with these aims: • to revive the study of yoga culture from scientific and practical aspects, • to modernize yoga so as to be easily incorporated in the daily life of a layman and • to propagate the true spirit of yoga for the benefit of humanity. The library also strives to facilitate access to quality information and knowledge resources in all formats on subjects not only on yoga but also on related philosophies in order to meet that objective. A constant endeavour is to integrate services and technologies that are essential for learning, research and creation of new knowledge. Yogendraji once said that one householder-yogi is worth a thousand sanyasis. In keeping with that sentiment, the library enables not only scholars to do their research in yoga but more importantly enables regular learners of yoga and the common man to keep in touch with the teachings of the founder of this Institute and expand their knowledge of yoga. *Summary of the Job Role:* Job entails to ensure efficient library operations and administration and to effectively maintain the library and its materials. It also involves providing professional research, reference and consultation services for the users. An important aspect of the job is creation of new digital collections using available technology in the library. Co-ordinate with the different faculty members as part of the program to attract students to benefit from the library. *Qualifications:* • Masters of Library and Information Science degree (MLIS) with a Bachelor’s degree [Philosophy preferred] • 2+ years’ experience working *Main Job Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities: * ● Classify and catalog books, publications, audiovisual aids, and other library materials based on standard library classification systems. ● Provide reference service to the students and faculty of the Institute. ● Having knowledge and experience of using computers, computer systems, library software systems and other technologies. Candidate should be proficient in standard office software applications. ● Circulation of library materials and maintaining records of the issue and return. Compile lists of overdue materials with the help of library software, and notify borrowers that their materials are overdue. ● Assisting the students and faculty in using the online catalogue / Assist readers with finding reference materials when asked. ● Maintain Library Inventory. ● Teach library users how to search for information using the library database and explain its function. Help readers navigate electronic records. ● Organize and arrange collections of books, publications, documents, audiovisual aids, according to standard library practices using the classification system and other reference materials for convenient access. ● Evaluate existing library materials to determine outdated or unused items that need to be discarded.
