AICTE & VTU Jointly Organizing Short Term Training Program on Open Source Software for Information Retrieval Systems in Technical Institutions from 09-03-2020 To 13-03-2020. Libraries have been a trusted source of information. Going to a library and picking a book was fun those days. Technology has brought significant changes to libraries. These days Libraries function differently due to the digitalization. Access to information is in real-time and universal. Traditional libraries are forced to re-work on their workflow. Libraries and information centers play crucial role in facilitating and meeting the information requirements of academic and student community of these institutions. The robust web information portal of library of every academic institution is need of an hour. This can be achieved using commercial or open source. Various open source software for information retrieval systems are available under GPL on the net, to name few Koha, Dspace, Eprints, Drupal, Joomla, OpenCMS, wordpress, etc. Training Program Objectives: The objective of the AICTE – VTU Short Term Training Program is to conduct short term training for the librarians to prepare them for being successful information professional and to become an expert on the following important open source software for information retrieval systems. Topics: 1. Content creation (Digitization/capturing born digital documents, OCR technologies, file format and standards and storage media, etc.,). 2. Koha (Open source software for library management). 3. Eprints (Open-source software package for building open access repositories). 4. Drupal (Open source CMS for building dynamic library portal). 5. VuFind (Open-source discovery platform). Workshop plan: Each session (Topic) will have 20 minutes talk and demonstration and 40 minutes for participants to learn and configure that feature of OSS & IRS on their workstation Resource Persons: Experts from industry and reputed premier institutions. Eligibility: Librarians from AICTE Approved and VTU Affiliated Technical Institutes are eligible to participate. Registration Fee: There is no Registration Fee Accommodation & Food: Free accommodation and food will be provided for participants TA will be provided to the outstation Participants as per the norms of the programme on production of Bus/Train Ticket.
