WHAT IS LIVING AND WHAT IS DEAD OF RANGANATHAN'S CONTRIBUTIONS?

Dear Sir/Madam, Very debatable title, however in India we have not examined Ranganathan's Contributions to LIS in a much deeper way. Ranganathan's faceted analysis and colon classification was and is much discussed in academic parlance of western universities. There is a huge body of work available on faceted classification. But in India we have not made any siginficant or notable studies on Ranganathan's works. Serious historical research has also not been done on Indian LIS and Ranganathan's major contributions systematically. W. Boyd Rayward of School of Information Sciences, University of Illinois works on Paul Otlet is one notable examples that how we can examine LIS historiography in India. Without much or significant work on Ranganathan's postulates or ideas in India who we can assess his contributions in a more constructive way? ------------------------- With best wishes Vasantha Raju N.
