We find them in trade markets, underlying the Internet and the World Wide Web, in gene and protein sequences, and in social settings. This seminar focuses on a characteristic of networks called degrees of separation. We explore the classical theory behind this characteristic, the earliest of the experiments that led to an elucidation of the same, and how modern-day networks exhibit the phenomenon.
