Dear Mr Vinit Kumar Thank you for sharing your '*pearls of wisdom*' and reinforcing my awareness about the value and efficacy of webinars. With more than 30 years of working experience as a library professional with particular interest in knowledge sharing and selective dissemination of information, I guess I am capable of making comparative studies of domains .. homogeneous or heterogeneous, whatever they may be. I am afraid you failed to catch the metaphor in my statement or the image I shared. Dear Ms Sharmila Gosh,
Sorry to say that you are comparing an online activity with a pandemic. You are comparing a disease taking human lives with an event that is enriching the knowledge base of many in this case library professionals in a situation where physically attending academic activities is not possible. On the same lines, the term 'excess' is a relative term that varies from person to person as all of them are optional, and one has the freedom to attend depending on one's interest. Additionally, these webinars have allowed crossing the limitations of money, space and accessibility of listening to the views of senior professionals. No doubt they have provided a platform for the upcoming LIS speakers and professionals to share their experiences too. In my opinion, these webinars offer the knowledge in one or two hours that you gain by spending min 6-7 hours of logistics and other expenses when you attend physical conferences. The other benefits as you mentioned associated with physical conferences were anyway missing in the majority od national or international conferences organised in India barring few of the reputed conferences.
As a professional, we should be happy that the flow of knowledge is taking place through a medium accessible to all.

Dear Professionals, I totally disagree with the excess of webinars phenomena. In these lockdown days, this helps the learners and speakers both to share their queries and exploring the knowledge without travel, registration and boarding costs simply sitting at home saving time and money. Of course I do agree there should be quality in our lecture so that a clear concept reaches to the learners.

When you attend an event physically / in person.. Be it a scholarly event or a socio-cultural event, the levels of *active* participation, verbal interactions with fellow participants , information exchange and knowledge sharing.. Happens at different levels altogether.. This *cannot* be possible from the space of your home or office, you being solo.. And isolated.. Just you, your equipment, the network and everything that is possible online!
Agree.. In a situation like this (lockdown and compulsory social distancing) we don't have a better option. But, why not keep the number of such webinars limited ONLY to what is actually required.?
