Alan was a long-standing ILIG committee member and, as Ian says, very active in the international arena prior to his stroke. He always had amazing energy and enthusiasm as well as a passion for supporting colleagues. He continued to attend ILIG committee meetings and events after his stroke and will be sorely missed.

It is with great sadness that I have to inform you that Alan Hopkinson died on 7th April. Alan was for many years Chairman of the permanent UNIMARC Committee and of the UDC consortium. He was regularly involved in development projects throughout the world until almost completely paralysed by a stroke about 2 years ago. Although there had recently been some small signs of improvements in his condition, he died peacefully in his sleep a few days ago.
