The techniques discussed can be used by library managers to structure various tasks and to ascertain start and finish dates and resource allocations. Introduction A project is a group of activities with a beginning and an end. Complex projects like for example moving a library etc require that multiple activities be carried out simultaneously. Critical Path Method (CPM) and Program Evaluation Review Techniques (PERT) are systematic techniques which can be used when there is N number of ways to achieve a particular objective. They enable the project manager to schedule and to manage successful completion of a project. Both techniques are widely used in the field of librarianship. The basic purpose of both techniques is to subdivide a complex project into a series of shorter independent tasks, and then to see which ones are crucial and necessary for the overall completion of the project crucial in the sense that any delay in a particular job results in a delay of the entire project. This seminar discuss the two techniques in detail while tracing the basic difference in approaches and their applications for Librarianship.
