On the occasion, the president presented Jnanadoota Award to Prof K T Pandurangi and Mahabharata Ratna award to Late Bhima Bhat and Prof D H Dhadpale of the Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute, Pune. The award was given for excellence in Mahabharata and Indic systems. Also, Mahabharata Lakshalankara, a critical edition of 500-year-old commentary on Mahabharata, was released and a project to prepare an encyclopaedia of Mahabharata was launched.
