As per notification no.Ad.F1/15560/2008 dated 22/11/2008, calicut university invited applications for the selection of library assistants and the exam is proposed to conduct on 7/3/2010.the interesting fact is that the syllabus for written test (objective type) (75 marks) will be based on general english, general knowledge, and test of reasoning and there will be no questions from library science!!!! (i read this from some regional newspapers).the syllabus for written test documented on the hall ticket sent to candidates says the same. in normal case, for a subject based exam, questions should ask from the concerned subject.anyway, the candidates are surprised ... pls comment on the matter as to whether this type syallabuses can be welcomed or not?. one more thing, the interview for the post will be based on library science questions(25 marks). jasimudeen.s thrissur -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean.

Dear Members, The decision towards syllabi for a competitive exam, normally rests with the respective authorities. No doubt, such a resolution will be treated as final. My conviction is that, the authorities could apply some logic in this respect. Subjective knowledge of a profession has paramount influence in his/her competency in work. The syllabi currently prescribed is just for clerical cadre, not suit to induct LIS professionals. Sorry to say, ....... it is 'ridiculous'. With warm regards.
