One of the prominent factor is the availability of scientific information on Internet. There are no common acceptance on the concept of plagiarism. There are varied aspect of plagiarism which are still vague in some aspect. The time pressure and the demand to keep up with producing noteworthy scientific information as well as the availability of colossal amount of literature is resulting in academic dishonesty, rampant publication and demeaning scholarship. While academic community is still coping up with what to consider as plagiarism and where to draw the line, it is essential to educate and spread awareness about plagiarism in order to salvage ethical scholarship. In this colloquium we shall discuss the notion of plagiarism in scholarship, the various facets of plagiarism, legalities concerning plagiarism, some cases, the tools and techniques for detecting plagiarism, the need of educating which calls for librarians' role, discuss issues, means and ways to avoid plagiarism.
