SHPT SCHOOL OF LIBRARY SCIENCE PAST STUDENTS ASSOCIATION Mumbai 400020     Dear all,   Here is the invitation for our first programme of our association for the year 2007.   Looking back to your appreciation for the lecture on Digital Libraries by Prof. Neuhold in 2004, here is one more opportunity to meet another German scholar Dr. Rafael Ball.         Dr. Ball will speak on ‘Innovative Services of a Special Library’ Dr. Rafael Ball has done his doctorate in Biology and has worked in the library sector since 1994. At present he is Head of the Central Library of Research Centre Jülich. Dr Ball is member of various library bodies and associations. He has widely published in national and international specialist journals and participated in conferences and workshops at home and abroad. The main areas of his practical and theoretical work are library management, scholarly communication, scientometrics and the development of new digital library services.   The future of library services must be considered against the background of a new self-conception of libraries and their definition and of a changing information society. In future, the proactivity of the library and its contribution to the overall enterprise or institution will be defined by a wide range of new business areas and innovative activities. Dr. Ball’s presentation will assess the current status of scholarly communication in libraries.
