Dear Members, The National Centre for Science Information (NCSI), IISc, Bangalore, does not exist anymore. The official dissolution order was issued recently. The Archives and Publications Cell at IISc will be occupying the erstwhile NCSI building. As per my choice, I have been transferred to the JRD Tata Memorial Library (JRDTML), IISc and have since reported for work there. My present contact details are appended to this mail. As many of you are aware, this discussion list (LIS-Forum) service is being administered from the erstwhile NCSI since 1997. With the closure of NCSI, there is a question mark about its continuity from the IISc domain. I haven't yet had a chance to discuss the matter related to the continuity of the LIS-Forum service from the JRDTML with the Library in-charge, JRDTML. Will do so at an earliest opportunity and let you know if the service would be continued from the JRDTML or its time for the change of the guard! Respected all,
I saw the first advertisement of LIS Forum mailing list in a journal when I
was a student in the year 2005. At that time even I dont have any knowledge
about a mailing list but still I subscribe to this mailing list. During
last 7 years I have benefited much from the mailing list. I cannot express
my thought here but its mails are still my priority. I strongly oppose the
closure of this mailing list. It should be continued. It may be shifted but
it should be continued. Without it I will left my right hand. You know I
forgot most of the thing I learn from my university, I can only remember
the LIS Forum, its messages, its answers, its archive.
Thanking you,
Yours faithfully

Dear Dr Francis,
It is very unfortunate to know that NCSI no longer exists officially. Its
contribution to LIS profession would always be remembered. I hope LIS-Forum
would continue to exist on IISc domain as this being the first list
provided platform for professionals to discuss on professional issues and
allowed them to share information.
I appreciate the role of late Dr T.B. Rajashekar, you and other staff of
NCSI in providing various services to the research community and imparting
training to LIS professionals.
I wish you and other staff of NCSI all the best on your future endeavours.
best Regards,

Its a sad that NCSI would be no more and future existence of LIS Forum is
in question. I hope that JRD Library would allow it host or IISc would
continue to support.
Thanks

This is true picture of how our government actual promotes higher education and research in country. Compare it with China, which is making so much of investment in R&D development espcially in scientific research. Our government just talk hollow about promotion of scientific activities in the country, but do exactly opposite. Closure of NCSI is not the only example of these double standards, there are many other such instances. I sincerely wish the continuity of LIS-FORUM and hope the wise sense will prevail and JRDTML management will allow continuity of this very-very useful platform. Dear Professionals:
We have been hearing of closure of NCSI for some time and the curtain has
come down finally, which is a shocking news
for LIS professionals. I had utilized services of NCSI on many occasions.
Closure is very unfortunate.
I have been browsing LIS - forum news days in and days out and it is one of
the leading lis-forums in the country.
As a retired professional, it is the best forum for me to update of current
events and exchange of information. This lis-forum may please be carried on
with the help of IISc - JRD Library.
We wish to recall services of late Dr. T.B.Rajashekhar, Dr. Francis and
other staff of in maintaining best tradition of library profession while
managing NCSI and especially training programmes, etc. The best tribute to
late Dr. Rajasekhar is at least to maintain the LIS-forum which he had
developed at NCSI.
I wish all the best to the erstwhile NCSI staff in their future endeavors.

Dear Professionals,
I also have great and useful memories to cherish about LIS Forum. I became its member in way back 2004 and it is hard to imagine without LIS Forum mails even a single day. LIS Forum makes learning and sharing happens and brings the entire LIS Professional community together. Innumerable young professionals have benifited and taken guidance from experienced people on LIS Forum, it is just like a virtual Gurukool. It is hard to believe that NCSI a premier training institute for LIS professionals is no more exists, but NCSI teams contributions to LIS field is enormous will be remembered for ever. I urge on behalf of the entire LIS community to IISc Bangalore to host this LIS Forum on their server and become a part of the success story. I also request ILA and other premier associations to act and save our beloved LIS-Forum.
Thanks & Regards
