This has drawn the strength from the Open Access movement (http://www.soros.org/openaccess/). This three-day Workshop envisages blending theory & practice training programme of First Level to acquaint all those engaged in learning the strategies, seeking support towards building Institutional Repositories. The beneficiaries of this programme are those Librarians, LIS Teachers, Information, Computer and Software Professionals who have the interests, initiatives and the need to set up such repositories in their organizations. The three-day workshop shall cover Open Access concepts, Scholarly Institutional Repositories, DSpace, and Metadata Standards. The prime focus areas are: - Institutional Repositories: Open Access Archives, OAI, OAI-PMH - working principle, and cases. - DSpace: Overview, Installations ( Java 2 SDK, Apache, Jakarta Tomcat, mod_jk, Apache Ant, PostgreSQL, DSpace), Administration, and Customization. - Metadata Standards: Concepts, Dublin Core, METS and MODS. - Hands-on Sessions The workshop will be conducted in a training laboratory equipped with desktop PCs with MS Windows Operating System. Each participant will be provided with a PC supplemented with LCD projected Demos, Lectures, Discussions, Case studies and Hands -on Sessions. Each participant shall be provided with a CD-ROM comprising of repository software DSpace, presentations, related and required above mentioned software packages and other resources relevant to Institutional Repositories, Metadata, and OAI. At the end of the workshop, each of he participants is expected to be well-versed and confident of installation of the necessary software packages to set up and develop institutional repositories.
