Merging of UGC-Inonet DLC and INDEST

Dear Professionals, It is learnt that UGC-Infonet Digital Library Consortium (including N-List) and INDEST Consortium have been merged and combined entity would be operated by UGC-INFLIBNET. A welcome development, a step towards National Consortia. Let us congratulate all those concerned, specifically Dr. Jagadish Arora, Director INFLIBNET. This combined bargaining power can give access to more number of E-Resources to beneficiaries both Consortia. Dear Friends
Congratulation for the effort ... happy about the sportive attitude of
Dr.Goudar
It is high time to think about attitudes of apex bodies like AICTE, IMC,
including NAAC who are working independent of these effort or ignoring the
effort and expenditure -- while reviewing the guidelines
None of the apex bodies are interested to know about --- what is happening
in information service --- they have not updated their Guidelines on par
with the development.
One more very bad development in all these consortia --- majority are
publishers-driven not users-driven
More than national consortia --- there is an urgent need for national
guidelines in consortia development than consortia itself
I hope LIS professional along with related bodies make an concerted effort
or otherwise --- apex bodies will try to look into efforts of various other
sectors ... specifically information service
Apex Bodies also are not bothered about the quality of the staff .... Many
library and information centers/ service are killed by the institution (
like Indian institute of Science set a bad precedence to libraries ) by
placing professor in-charge (as an additional charge)
God only can save academia, research or a learning environment
Long Live .... the libraries or digital libraries or information centres
or learning resources centres

Very happy to know this, definitely a step to have national consortia and national licensing. Kudos to INFLIBNET and Dr. Arora.
